A 35-year-old man robbed a 9-year-old boy of $23 on the West Side on Wednesday because, as he allegedly told police, "I didn't have any money."

Dennis Lares, of Hazel Crest, was charged with robbery after taking the money about 10:30 p.m. at 430 N. Cicero, police said.

The boy flagged down a police officer who chased Lares and arrested him, police said.
