CHICAGO POLICE POLICY FOR OFFICERS USING ANTIDEPRESSANTS

I recieved an email about an officer who told the medical section that he was taking antidepressants which wasn't related to his reason why he was down there ,but the nurse immediatley made him sign a release form to contact his psychatrist and request his personal records. They told him that he could be stripped and when he called the union they told him he will probably will get served and must go now and talk with the city doc take a drug test to make sure hes fit for duty . I had no idea that the city could do that I mean this guy took steps to help with his depression and it seems he is now being punished for doing the right thing . Now his personal records will be in the Departments hands. The nurse told him the department wants "normal people " when does having depression not make you normal 1 in 5 people have depression and its a genetic disease that runs in famlies . So the dept is telling you its ok to self medicate with alcohol but God forbid you take a prescribed medication because then you will be stripped and until you are found fit for duty you will be in call back. Has anyone else had to go through this when the dept found out they took an antidepressant ?

This guy isnt suicidal or depressed because of the medication hes taking how can the dept get away with this

I’m not a police officer but I am married to a police officer who is disabled because of her service as a police officer. I also have a close friend who has sustained significant and life changing injuries on the job as a police officer. Both these officers have given their hearts and souls to one of the most thankless jobs on the planet. I’ve also seen first hand the inner workings of how officers are treated by the city they serve and the people they protect. Quite honestly, I find it shameful and disgusting.

Service to one’s country is just that, service. It doesn’t matter if it’s via military service, through a para-military organization such as a police department, fire fighter, EMS or whatever. Instead of being treated with gratitude and respect, the people who choose to serve as police officers are punished. Punished for being human beings, punished for the stupidity of others and punished for either doing or trying to do the right thing.

I would find it difficult to want to work for or serve anyone that sees my service as not having value. I could not have any loyalty to an employer who chooses to punish me for my service, loyalty and commitment.

Everyone that serves, no matter what the capacity, deserves to be treated with honor, dignity and caring, especially when they need it most.

This is a disgrace and an outrage!!!!!! HIPAA rules were clearly violated by the nurse at the medical section. Befor anyone asks for you to sign away rights to you PRIVATE MEDICAL HISTORY, they are suppose to tell you your HIPAA rights.........

Clearly this was NOT the case for this officer.

The Chicago Police Medical Section is a bunch of do nothing hater's that are SUPPOSE to be there to help an injured or sick Officer. They are anything BUT that. The medical section is in bed with the city who is in bed with the QUACK DOCTORS they force officers to go and see. Many Officers are walking wounded because of botched surgeries and undiagnosed ailments by these CITY DOCTORS......

If the medical section asks you to SIGN anything, immediately ask for the SGT incharge of the medical section and get on the phone RIGHT AWAY to your DOCTOR.........

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS BECAUSE THESE MOTHERFUCKERS WILL TAKE THEM AWAY FROM YOU WITH EVERY LYING WEASEL TACTIC THEY CAN........

I am telling you this from experience. From one who has been there and done that and put through the ringer by the medical section. They are nothing but a bunch of lying ass pieces of shit.

PS........ I called a Sgt on scene with a dispute against a nurse in the medical section. He got a CR on her, and guess what??? 30 pending on her and FIRED.........She was a civilian nurse with a heavy clouted husband attorney for the city. So if Jane Doe like me can do it, anyone can. Call for a POLICE SUPERVISOR!!!!

Ok end of rant I feel better now.

Good luck to this officer. Lawyer up and go get'em!!!
