April 12, 2009 3:52 AM
An off-duty police officer was shot in what might have been an attempted carjacking in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, police said.

The incident occurred about 2:50 a.m. in the 8700 block of Halsted Street, News Affairs Officer John Henry said citing preliminary information.

An offender apparently approached and shot the 36-year-old male officer in the arm, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire between the officer and the offender, Henry said.

The officer was taken to an area hospital in good condition, he said.

Nobody was in custody as of 3:40 a.m., he said.

No further information on the case was immediately available.

What if he wasn't a off duty PO and just a citizen he would be dead because he couldn't return fire law abiding citizens are not allowed to carry guns in Chicago .
Criminals will always have access to guns which leave the citizens defenseless

Amen. The right to carry is a privilege American's gave ourselves in 1779 in the Bill of Rights as amendments to the Constitution. The only time those rights should be revoked are for convicted criminals and those without the mental capacity to own a firearm.

When our right to bear arms is lost the only people with guns will be the criminals and an oppressive government.
